Approval is a product feature, not a compromise.

The serious version of autonomy knows when to stop and ask.

If an AI can email a client without approval, congratulations: you have automated anxiety.

There is a fantasy version of autonomous work where the system simply gets on with everything while humans gaze at dashboards and reclaim their hobbies. Lovely. Also a governance incident waiting politely by the door.

Folio uses approval as a design principle. Sensitive, irreversible or client-facing work can pause, show its reasoning, present the draft, and ask for a human decision.

That does not make the system timid. It makes it usable. Trust grows when people can see the work, correct the work and decide where the boundary should move over time.

Autonomy without approval is a party trick. Autonomy with judgement is a colleague.
